One hundred and forty police officers serving with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command were killed in 2024.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, disclosed this, adding that some policemen died while sleeping and others slumped and passed away at work.
He said some members of the deceased officers’ families have been paid their entitlements and other perks.
“In fact, just today, this morning, we lost one of our officers who went to bed and didn’t wake up again. So you can see how some of our men died while on active service for our dear nation,” he said.
The CP, however, expressed the command’s determination to build on the success recorded in 2024, through public enlightenment initiatives to address evolving security demands of the FCT.
