There was pandemonium at Udawa town in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna state after suspected bandits on Thursday abducted housewives among them nursing mothers along Kaduna – Birnin Gwari highway.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE gathered that the incident happened between Manini village and Udawa along the highway.
Sources in Udawa said the bandits blocked the highway around around 12pm and kidnapped the victims.
It was gathered that the women were on their way for a wedding ceremony at Birnin Gwari when the incident happened.
A community leader who simply identified himself as Malam Umar said the nursing mothers were abducted with their infants to an undisclosed destination.
“The housewives, among them nursing mothers, were all from our town Udawa with their infants and have been whisked away into the forest by the bandits. There was a woman with her five daughters that were abducted among them,” he said.
According to him, a seven year old minor was among those abducted who is like a son to him. He also said that the bandits have already contacted some family members demanding ransom.
The State Police Command is yet to comment on the issue as the Public Relations Officer, ASP Jalige Mohammed, didn’t answer his calls.
