The gale of defections continued on Thursday in the House of Representatives as 12 members from four parties defected to two parties.
21st CENTURY CHRONICLE reports that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (P) New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) and Young Progressives Party (YPP) lost their members to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In separate letters read by the Deputy Speaker, Rep. Benjamin Kalu on the floor of the house, the lawmakers attribute their defection to irreconcilable differences in their former parties as reasons for the defections.
Those who left PDP and joined the APC are Reps. James Barka, Laori Bitrus, Zakaria Nyampa and Kobis Thimnu all from Adamawa State.
Others are Reps. Midala Balami (PDP-Borno) and Mohammed Bargaja (PDP-Sokoto) who joined the ruling party, while Reps. Afam Ogene (LP-Anambra), Peter Aniekwe (YPP-Anambra) and Lilian Orogbu (LP-Anambra) defected to the ADC.
Also, Reps. Jessey Onakalusi (LP- Lagos) and Murphy Osaro (LP-Edo) joined the ADC.
Kalu said eight other lawmakers had notified the Green Chamber of their defections giving their names as Hassan Hussein (NNPP-Kano), Tijani Khali (NNPP-Kano), Muhammed Shehu (NNPP-Kano) and Uchenna Okonkwo (LP-Anambra).
He, however, said the letters of the defecting lawmakers would be read when they were physically present at plenary.
During Wednesday’s plenary, Reps. Garba Inuwa and Abdullahi El-Rasheed, both from Gombe, and Rep. Mohammed Audu (PDP-Taraba) defected to the APC, while Rep. Joshua Obika (LP-FCT) also defected to APC and his counterpart, Adewale Adebayo (PDP-Osun) joined the Accord Party (AP).
