A tragic road accident on the Kaduna-Zaria highway resulted in the deaths of 11 travelers. The crash, involving a truck and a Golf salon car, occurred at Gwargwaje Zaria at 5:50 a.m. on Friday.
All victims were inside the Golf vehicle, which bore the registration number FST 134FX.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Kabir Nadabo who confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday said the four truck passengers were injured.
Nadabo explained that police officers from Gwargwaje Division conducted the rescue operation and only informed the Unit Commander of RS1.3 Zaria after completing their work.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the Golf, carrying 11 people (all males), was involved in a route violation (one-way) without headlights and collided with an oncoming MAN truck with four occupants.
“The collision resulted in the instant death of all 11 people in the Golf, while the four truck passengers were injured. After the rescue, a team from the FRSC Zaria Unit arrived, transporting the bodies and the injured to ABUTH Shika,” he said.
Nadabo also noted that the area has a roadside market with busy commercial activities. The long U-turn makes it challenging for commercial riders, leading to frequent traffic violations.
