Two police officers and three civilians have been shot dead by bandits during an attack on Yarkatsinan Laka Community in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara state.
Spokesperson of the state Police command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed this, adding that the gunmen came in on over 50 motorcycles, carrying sophisticated weapons, and attacked the community.
He said the Police Strike Unit engaged the assailants in a gun duel, killing 11 bandits and wounding scores.
Abubakar said two police officers and three civilians were, however, killed in the gun battle.
He said “one police officer sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment and is responding positively,” adding that normalcy has since been restored in the area.
The State Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Muhammad Bello, paid a condolence visit to the people of the Yarkatsinan Laka Community to commiserate with the families of the deceased and the entire community over the unfortunate incident.
He reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to strengthening the security architecture and restoring lasting peace and normalcy in the area.
The Command urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information to enhance effective policing.
