The All Tinubu/Barau Support Groups Coalition has vowed to initiate legal action against individuals and groups behind what it described as false and malicious allegations against the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, over the confirmation process of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Chairman designate, Engr. Abdullahi Garba Ramat.
Addressing journalists in Kano, the Convener and Director-General of the coalition, Comrade Hafizu Sani Liman, said the group’s decision followed recent claims by the defunct Gawuna campaign organisation alleging that Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senator Barau received a $10 million bribe to stall the confirmation of the nominee.
Comrade Liman dismissed the allegations as politically motivated and intended to tarnish the reputation of Senator Barau, describing them as a product of mischief and frustration.
“We have instructed our lawyers to initiate legal action against these agents of mischief and lies. Their intention is clear, to malign the integrity of Senator Barau and mislead the public. But the law will take its course,” he stated.
He explained that the confirmation process for Engr. Ramat’s appointment had not been concluded, noting that the Senate Committee on Power, chaired by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, had already screened the nominee and was expected to present its report to the plenary soon.
According to him, it was laughable mmfor anyone to suggest that Senator Barau was working against the confirmation of Ramat, pointing out that the Deputy President of the Senate had, in fact, lobbied his colleagues to ensure the nominee’s successful screening and confirmation.
The coalition further lauded Senator Barau’s record of service and support for Kano indigenes, citing his sponsorship of the North-West Development Commission Bill, facilitation of federal appointments, and job creation initiatives as evidence of his commitment to development.
The coalition urged Nigerians, especially the people of Kano, to disregard what it described as baseless propaganda, affirming its unwavering support for Senator Barau’s leadership and his dedication to good governance.
