Bandits have killed at least 10 persons in Guga village of Bakori local government area in Katsina state.
During the attack which took Tuesday morning, the village head was also abducted.
Several other residents were also abducted by the bandits who stormed the village in large number and operated for hours.
Eldest son of the village head, Abdullahi Umar, confirmed that his father has been abducted and the bandits have not reached out to them for negotiations.
He said, “when they came, they started shooting sporadically to scare people away. I was in my room because it was after 1am. As I tried coming out, I met my father also coming out going toward the village center where the shooting was coming from. The bandits returned with him into the house, took some food stuff and left with him,” he said over the phone.
Another local, Mahadi Dan Binta told 21 CENTURY CHRONICLE through phone that his wife and five year old daughter were also abducted because they couldn’t run when the bandits’struck.
Mr Dan Binta said he was in Katsina metropolis when the attack occurred but his wife called him through phone immediately the bandits struck. He however said the family couldn’t save themselves from the bandits.
The monarch son said the 10 people that were killed tried running when the bandits started shooting.
“They have burnt down most of the shops in the village. We’re now preparing to conduct the burial for the ten people we’ve seen. Several others have been abducted but we’ll wait for others who must have escaped into the bush to return so that we can count those who have been abducted,” he said.
When contacted, police spokesperson in the state, Gambo Isa, said he was not aware of the attack but promised to contact the Divisional Police Officer in Bakori.
