A 2-year-old pupil has been eaten by 10 dogs in a private school in Nteje community, Oyi local government area of Anambra State.
A resident of the area said one of the parents of the child had taken the boy to the school, Global Growth Academy, for registration on Monday when the incident happened.
He said while the parent was conducting the child’s registration at the headmaster’s office the child strayed, where he met the dogs who dragged him to their shed and ate him.
The resident said the dogs were reared in the same compound the school was located, by Chinedu Oka who is the proprietor of the school.
He said Oka had earlier been warned that rearing dogs were not permitted in the community, but he turned deaf ears.
The resident said the youth vigilante in the community had killed the dogs on hearing about the incident.
The traditional ruler of Nteje, Igwe Roland Odegbo, said by the law of the community, the proprietor of the school had committed murder, adding that he had been added over to the police for further action.
The school has been closed after the incident.
